The Morningside Academic Institute was established in the Fall of 2006 by Jana Triplett, Director of The College Program. Mrs. Triplett brings years of experience in this field of combining drug addiction and alcohol treatment with college education.
The problem defined.
People suffering from addictions to alcohol and drugs typically find themselves with academic problems. They may have been accepted into a top tier University, but somewhere along their academic careers their addiction overwhelms them to the point that their academic success is halted. They typically withdraw from their classes or fail them altogether. The more fortunate alcoholics and addicts, realizing their problems, withdraw before it's too late and seek help. The Academic Institute is experience in dealing with turbulent past academic careers and helps individuals regain firm footing on solid academic ground.
The College Program process.
To learn more about the research in this field, you can read the 2004 University of California, Irvine, Research Symposium Honors Thesis which studied the long term effects on sobriety when coupling drug and alcohol treatment with an academic program. This research was conducted by Paul Alexander, our Chief Operating Officer/Director of Admissions, and Brendan Bickley, our Director of Education.
